I held another Magic night last Wednesday, and it had a healthy amount of ups and downs. First off, I had bought 3 booster packs online the first being ‘Alara Reborn‘ this I thought would make it interesting. And it did... interestingly hard. All the cards were multi coloured. This is an element that I think we should have saved for the last booster to open. Opening them first meant we had to choose at least two colours to start our draft decks.
I had to choose a third colour by my second card. By the sixth card I was just taking cards I liked the look of. So my top tip is save a booster of nothing but multi-coloured cards for last.
The other boosters we had were ‘Rise of the Eldrazi’ and ‘Mirrodin Besieged’. And it just so happened there was a planeswalker in one of those booster packs. Annoyingly not the one I opened. My uncle Mark was the one who got it. He announced this as we were making our decks with “So how do these planeswalkers work again?” The card was ‘Tezzert, Agent of Bolas’.
Well the colours I ended up picking were Black, White and Red. The cards that set this were:
‘Vectis Dominator’ as I liked the idea of taking an opponent’s card out of the running and if i don’t I’ll be dealing them some damage.
‘Demonspine Whip’ being it is black and red which pumps up your creatures so long as you have the mana. I ended up with three other multi coloured cards.
‘Jund Hackblade’, ‘Monstrous Carabid’ and ‘Intimidation Bolt’.
The cards that stood out from the ‘Rise of the Eldrazi’ boosters that made it into my draft deck: Well my rare was ‘Eldrazi Conscription’ so I had to jump on that. If I could get this card out on even a 2/2, that would be a 12/12 trample and a bonus of annihilator 2. The second booster had ‘Zulaport Enforcer’ which is a black card which ‘Levels up’ now it wasn’t the best card in that pack as there was ‘Ulamog’s Crusher’ (I got this later) but Kevin usually gets all of them so I felt the need to whip that one out of the running too. I also got ‘Rapacious One’ which is a powerful red creature and supplies a mana source which I felt I may need with a three colour deck. I’d also like to point out ‘Skeletal Wurm’. Why? You can’t argue with one black mana to regenerate.
Also, ‘Kuldotha Ringleader’ and ‘Accorder Paladin’ both having battle cry; this gives extra power to the other creatures on your side.
When I played this deck it was a lot of fun, and I was blessed with a lot of land to help “bust out” the high costing cards that are in this deck; very few cards were low and not all are creatures. Because of this I was left exposed to attacks early in the game so by the time I’d got to my hard hitters; I only had time to take one player out. I look forward to using this deck again.

Looks interesting. Training Drone's a curious pick, but I can see how Alara Reborn would've messed up your options there.
ReplyDeleteNow you point it out Training Drone is a wired one. Yer we should have saved Alara Reborn for last but i had completly forgot what was in store lol
